No sleep

31May06

I quite literally did not close my eyes last night (thank you, Josue), so I really have no energy to create anything fun or feisty. Not that I regularly provide fun or feisty content… I’m just saying, at least I have an excuse today.

Anyhow, it’s lloviendo a cantaros (raining like CRAZY) and each flash of lightening makes my monitor flicker. Oh, the joys of springtime.

    Hello,
I’m about to leave June 12 to live in Escazu for the summer.

I am reading up about Costa Rica and the stuff about Dengue Fever is unsettling to me. How freaked out should I be when I find mosquitoe bites on my body? Should I just wear Deet repellant and relax about the whole thing?

Any other advice you can give me? Is it possible to take a stroll in Escazu, to meet other young people (I’m 22) - and how would I go about finding an intercambio? Quiero hablar en espanol con un chico/chica como yo.

    Thanks,
    Simon

    Hey Simon,

First, I’m really functioning on zero sleep, so I may be incoherent. But here goes:

    1) The Dengue Fever thing: I don’t think you have too much to worry about. I haven’t heard about any problems from friends (gringos & ticos) living in CR. Just wear your repellent.

    2) I would recommend joining the CR Living Yahoo Group and the Costa Rica Young Expats Yahoo Group. There are a TON of expats living in Escazu and they do organized activities.

    3) With regards to an intercambio… do you just want to speak with someone or do you want to take Spanish classes? If you just want to speak, make some tico friends; they’ll be more than happy to speak with you! (They’re very patient!)

    Please keep coming back,
    Erin

    hi :D
Remember that dengue mosquitoes JUST live near sea level… it’s imposible to get dengue fever if you live in Escazu…

Moreover, the degue mosquitoes just live in stagnaned water so near the beach it’s difficult to get, too..

Where’s the problem?… the problem is when the people let stagnated water in their homes..

So it’s imposible to get dengue fever in you don’t live in sea level (or 500 meter above) and if you wanna go to the beach you just have to be careful about the places where you wanna live :)

Verny it’s not impossible to get dengue fever if you don’t live in sea level. I know for a fact in Cartago and other places that is a problem.

Either way, i doubt you’ll get it in Escazu Simon, and hit me up if you want to talk man.

Hi josue, you have a lot of negations in your first sentence (I can’t read this kind of sentences even in spanish :P ), but I think you don’t agree with me…

Anyway we can talk about dengue fever at another time, can’t we? :)
And well, Simon I could give you a couple of Spanish institutes if you want to study..

    Now now… make nice.

Simon, you will have fun, you will not get DF, and you will make friends. You already have 2 contacts, given that both
Verny and Josue live in CR.
