<ode>

I’ve said it before
And now I say it again,
This time in a poem
With my virtual pen:

Geek brains are fantastic,
they get me all hot,
when you speak of things
of which I know not.

Only a g33k
can gawk, unzip, and tty fsck
Without a girl thinking him
a total schmuck.

When a geek eyes my <body>
or considers my <form>
Offended I’m not,
just tingly and warm.

While the world may ignore
how special you are,
You give me the uncontrollable urge
to plus savoir.

You’ve opened my eyes
and shown me something new,
For only in our world
do 1 and 0 make 2.

But here comes the question,
the most difficult part,
are you 2 1337 4 me?
Perhaps, but I’ll give you my <3.

Just give me a chance,
don’t rule me out yet,
Because you and I,
we’d play a lovely duet.

I’d be the close tag to your open,
the yin to your yang,
I’d get you so well,
even your acronymous slang.

But this poem is too long,
To the point I must get.
I will sum it all up,
So we’ll never forget.

My point is just that
When all is said and done,
It’s with a geek that I’ll make
my 127 dot 0 dot 0 dot 1.

That’s absolutely hilarious, Erin. While reading through it, I couldn’t control myself from laughing, because it’s so true! ^-^

    §ê×ÿ Tøø ;)

Wonder if that’ll come out right on a blog…

Erin, that was just superb, I’m just wondering how many geeks must be emailing you every day now after the last “I heart geek” post and now this!

WOW! making a rime out of “teletype filesystemcheck” & “schmuck” is an incredible achievement!

are you 2 1337 4 me? Perhaps, but I’ll give you my <3.

perhaps i am 2 1337 4 you, but you could always hope and wait for me to have a segmentation fault…

I’d get you so well, even your acronymous slang.

    ORLY? WTF? OMG!

    It’s with a geek that I’ll make my 127 dot 0 dot 0 dot 1.

well, if you could specify, which ports you were ready to open in your fascist firewall (and vice versa), we might as well explore what data we could exchange and which protocols to use for that purpose. and from a standpoint of health: if you would use linux (as i do), we would be perfectly protected from any risk of transmitting a virus (which unfortunately is an existing danger in these times, when participating in such kind of otherwise often pleasurable activities). former is also formally known and promoted as “safe networking”, btw.

My gosh, Erin! This is one of the most clever things I’ve laid eyes on in a long time. You managed to gain a new level of respect from me, while you made me laugh with this example of your unique wit.

I’ll be hanging to the edge of my seat, waiting for another installment. This was too good to be one of a kind.

I didn’t know you love geeks or even speak 1337 :-)

It is just a brilliant and an innovative poem. I cannot imagine how you could think of these ideas: the way you connected various notions into one poem; the way words are flowing seamlessly. It is just magnificent.

I guess all geeks will ’smell’ the presence of this poem sooner or later, and will be amazed :-)

Thanks, everyone. I won’t lie… it took me awhile to compose, so I’m glad you all enjoyed. Maybe someday I’ll be able to do another (as some of you have said), but I don’t know… maybe it’s really best only one time. We’ll see. :-* to you all!

Those damn geeks - they’ve got it all - looks, money, power, brains - the geeks will inherit the world.

How cool is that! Keep up the good work.

    What Was ~ What Is

    Verse: 1

What Was ~ Once is no more
What Is ~ Dreams and hopes no longer explored

What Was ~ Visions of the many promised tomorrows
What Is ~ Causes one to think of the time we borrowed

What Was ~ Broken is the link between me and you
What Is ~ We think of what is, and how to start anew

What Was ~ The tide of our love creating many ripples and currents
What Is ~ The water dark and still. Many obstacles and deterrents

What Was ~ Not enough time in a day to spend together
What Is ~ More clouds, possible rain, inclement weather

What Was ~ You and me, an internal rhythm and rhyme. Lifelong partners in crime
What Is ~ Trying to reach you, trying to connect, nearing check-out time

    Chorus:

    Verse: 2

What Was ~ The beauty of the time, incomparable and sublime
What Is ~ Wasted effort, wasted time, not a victimless-crime

What Was ~ Too near to feel, slowly becoming far and distant
What Is ~ It’s all part of the goodbye, farewell, and the nonexistent

What Was ~ Caring and honest emotion
What Is ~ Day to day drama - all in slow-motion

What Was ~ The smiles and laughter filled the air
What Is ~ No laughter, much sorrow and dark despair

What Was ~ Discussed our lives from the important to the minute
What Is ~ Too much of the same, too boring, too dull… it’s all moot
    Chorus:

    Chorus:

What Was ~ Abundant love, it’s all about us and about tomorrow
What Is ~ Never mind us – Can’t take the pain, Can’t take the sorrow

What Was ~ More hellos than goodbyes
What Is ~ More goodbyes than hellos

What Was ~ A constant stride, a constant pace, performed with elegance and grace
What Is ~ Trying to escape , trying to replace, trying to forget the look, the face

What Was ~ An internal rhythm, an internal rhyme. Partners in crime
What Is ~ Trying to reach you, trying to connect, it’s nearing check-out time

What Was ~ Love is forever, love is for all time
What Is ~ Always a victim, always a crime

What Was ~ Endless love, no time limit, no boundaries, just love that’s pure and true
What Is ~ Love that is tattered and torn. Impossible to identify, a different look,
    a different feel
    a different hue
