This is my new little baby. I don’t have him home yet because he’s about 3-4 weeks old, but I soon will.

He arrived at the vet severely undernourished, shy and sickly. He’s doing much better now, though he has a long way to go towards growing big and strong. That’s my job. He’s precocious, though. Adorable. And he loves me. He purrs when I pick him up, he snuggles into my neck, he kisses my chin, and he cries when I put him down. We love each other already.

Our capacity to love never ceases to amaze me. Ostensibly, the heart is just an organ to pump blood through our body, but it’s clearly so much more. When I see someone I love — whether that someone walks on two feet or four — my heart fills up. The magical thing about the heart is that, unlike glass of water, it can never be too full. We can love until we think we can love no more, and then a special someone waltzes into the room and our heart, elastic as it is, swells even larger.

Baby needs a name. I’m picky about names; this kitty will be with me for the next 15 years, plus or minus some, and he needs to have a name that suits him. So you’re going to help me pick one.

Here are the pertinent details:

  • He’s excruciatingly adorable.
  • He’s a quiet fighter. Teeny tiny and very shy, but still clearly fighting to get his share of love and food. He’s just polite enough to wait his turn instead of demanding it immediately.
  • He’s burnt orange all over. I don’t even recall a spot of white on him.
  • He’s very affectionate.
  • He’s going to grow up to be big and strong, but I’ll bet he’ll always be a gentleman.

Meanings behind the names/why you picked them are important to me, so hit me with you best shot(s) and don’t be shy about the details!

    soooo cute!!!!

  2. Gravatar Icon 2 Josue

I have been thinking long and hard about this, and I’ve decided his name has to be Cutey.

  3. Gravatar Icon 3 Josue

I realize you might be really dumb and think Cutey is not a good name for him, which makes it obvious Cutey would be better off with me.

  4. Gravatar Icon 4 Josue

I also realize you will never let me have him though, therefor you cannot name him Cutey.

However, because I am the best I’ve come up with a name I don’t want, one that you’re free to use: Chico.

Jorge. ¿Por qué no? Lo que sea, necesita ser un nombre tico.

You’re right, elle, he should have a Spanish/tico name, probably… very representative of the point I’m at right now. But I’m not completely commited to that idea, if a perfect non-tico name came around!

I was thinking of the name Miro; Miro is one of characters from The Speaker for the Dead, the second part of the Ender Quartet (Erin took the names of her kitties from Ender’s Game).

So, Miro is one of the principal characters in the rest of the saga and after being shy, quiet and having had a weak body, he became strong, happy and absolutely a gentleman.

    Miro = /me-roo (en)
    Miro = /Miru (sp)

We all already know you’re going to call it Richard.

    How about Chavo?

It’s just one more word for “boy” but it’s something especially Costa Rican (or so I was told by a native this past weekend).

with eyes like that, it has to be paul.

We all already know you’re going to call it Richard.

    ORLY? do we?
we most certainly all already know you’re not going to christen him (little) bloodhound. (who could ever consider such adequate for your kitty?) ;-)

P.S. and if you would ever consider calling him richard or paul, at least let’s make it richard the lionheart or saint paul, as this little beast fersure does not look to be profane at all. ;-)

    You could name him “Meow”
That way he would be the only cat in the world who could call out his name “Meow”
..and answer the question.. “Whats your name kitty??”
    Now, isnt that coool!!

or maybe you could name him ‘Hobbes’ after the famous tiger from the CnH series.. he is burnt orange too..except he doesnt look like he can be as sarcastic as Hobbes… this one looks more like an angel..

You are lucky…this kitten is sooooooo adorable!!

You should name him “Damnit” just for the humor I would get thinking about what happens when you introduce your cat.

    “This is my cat, Damnit”

I’m thinking I’ll name him Cocobolo. Cocobolo, aka rosewood, is a very popular and beautiful wood here in CR. Kitten is almost the same color as my wood floors (which are not made from rosewood, granted), so I thought of the name. I’d call him Coco for short, which happens to mean coconut. But I’m still thinking about names.
