It’s been awfully quiet around here, I know. But I’m still alive and kicking, just a little tired from a whirlwind visit to the US of A. But back to business…

Lisa tagged me in a meme almost two weeks ago, and I’m just now catching up on all my feeds and attending to all those things that I swept under my Lazy Rug while I was away. And while I feel obligated to respond to this meme, I’m also feeling bad because this will be the second post in a row that is a meme response. But I’ll survive the shame, as I’m sure you, my dear readers, will afford me a little slack. So off we go.

The deal is this: I have to list eight facts that the majority of you don’t know about me. Shouldn’t be too hard.

  1. I don’t know what my real hair color is, since I’ve been highlighting and dyeing it since 8th grade. I’ve just dyed it back to what appears to be its natural color, and I like it. However, I’m sure this phase will last less than 6 months, and I’ll start playing around with color again.
  2. I am an only child, an experience which has made me want to have a large family. At this point in time, I’m thinking three children minimum. And I might like to adopt, if my future husband agrees.
  3. Being on the receiving end of a massage is one of my favorite things in the entire world. It’s better than food, and if you know how much I like food, you’ll understand what an incredibly meaningful statement that is.
  4. I really want to go to grad school for my Master’s, but I have no idea what I want to get it in [yet]. Sometimes I worry that I’ll never know.
  5. I think I’m 5 years old, but one of my favorite foods on this planet is a peanut butter & jelly sandwich.
  6. My boyfriend is really, truly the best in the world. At least for me.
  7. I don’t know what it is about antiperspirants, but I have to switch brands about every two sticks… if I use the same brand longer than that, the effectiveness seems to wear off.
  8. Speaking Spanish on the phone scares the heebie jeebies out of me. Every time a phone rings and I don’t know who is calling, I stand over the Caller ID, contemplating whether to pick up or not. Phones in Costa Rica automatically hang up if not answered after 10 rings, so I usually keep a running count in my head, calculating when I need to pick up. I’ve gotten to the point where I answer almost all the time, but my palms are always sweaty and my heart rate resembles that of an out-of-shape runner who’s just run a marathon.

I’m not going to tag anyone on this one (because I’m tired of being ignored). So if you like the meme or are just looking for a little blog inspiration, consider yourself tagged.

Memes are fine! Aye-aye on the PB&J. :)

Ahh I understand the phone bit, I myself have trouble with it mainly because my grandmother rushes me when she speaks over the phone. I need to brush up on that language. PB&Honey > PB&J just so you know.

    Bah, I’m working on it!

Did you know if you have a child in Costa Rica you win free, non-voting citizenship?

Is it citizenship, or permanent residency? And if it’s citizenship, any idea what the logic is behind making it non-voting?

Unfortunately for me and my tourist visa, I’m not planning on popping out a little tico any time soon! :-D

I don’t know what the logic behind non-voting is but I’ve been exploring my options for residency / citizenship.

Residency’s easy enough, you just have to have $60,000 in the bank and have $1000 a month shifted into a CR account and colones every month for 5 years, but you don’t have to spend it so you can re-use it over and over. That doesn’t appeal to me mostly because I’m saving up to buy or build a house here and $60,000 going to residency kind of delays that.

Marriage to a tico gets you non-voting citizenship as well which is something I’m loosely considering, it really depends on how long you have to be married (heh).

I’m still on tourist visas, they rock so much. I hate the entire concept of visas. When I was in Canada I had a 6 month visa and when that expired I had to leave the country for 180 days before I was eligible for a new one. The US wasn’t much better, from memory you had to actually leave the continent as well, and I imagine Australia (where I’m from) is no better. The entire concept of visas just feels so out-dated and limiting these days when you can up and move on a whim, taking your job with you if you’re one of the fortunate ones able to.

@Ben: Yeah, so far the tourist visa thing works well for me, but I don’t think I’d like to still be on it 5 years down the road. Maybe the marriage thing will work out for me, too. ;-)

@Fabi: You’re so welcome, baby! It’s how I feel. (And did you catch the above part?? Haha. :D)
